Google announced conversation and transcription tools for developers within its Gemini ecosystem. The updates broaden the possibilities for voice-based applications. The fact that the technology exists doesn't mean a company should build it into all its processes.

One possible use is making it easier to capture notes or to interact where typing is awkward. It's an example to evaluate, not a feature we've delivered to a client. To decide, first look at which task eats up time and what result the person needs.

A voice application should also let you review what it understood. Names, figures and conditions may need correcting; subsequent actions shouldn't run without proper control. You also need to know how the audio is processed and what usage costs apply.

Our take: the value lies in a well-defined task. Before building, test with authorised information, confirm availability and measure usefulness. A small, verifiable solution may be more suitable than promising an assistant that does everything.
